Mother's Helps are usually unqualified in child care. Typically they work alongside mothers and have some experience with looking after children, such as baby sitting or working casually in a nursery. A more mature Mother's Help may be able to take sole charge of the children. Their duties will quite often consist of household chores such as vacuuming, dusting, laundry and ironing whilst the children are at school and after school looking after the children's needs, preparing snacks and simple meals. A Mother's Help will usually be expected to work between 25 and 40 hours per week Monday to Friday with one to two evenings during the week. They will normally commit to working for a family for a minimum of a year.
